Benefits and Features of GoDaddy Hosting
When you’re looking for a hosting provider to help host your website, then you’ll want to take an in-depth look at each hosting company to see what type of services they offer and how you can benefit as a customer. You’ll also want to make sure that they provide a wide variety of hosting plans that include features that you’ll be able to take advantage of and use for your website.
We took a critical look at GoDaddy hosting, and we created some of the benefits and features that you can look forward to if you’re using GoDaddy as a web host for your website.
GoDaddy has Reliable Uptimes
When you’re looking to purchase hosting for your website, you’ll want to make sure that the hosting provider has a reliable uptime for their hosting services. After all, if your website isn’t up and lives, then your website is doing you little good.
You want a hosting provider that can ensure a high level of uptime for your website so that you can be sure that your site will always be accessible by your viewers and potential customers.
When you’re working with GoDaddy, you can rest easy because they have maintained an uptime of over 99% of the time for the last three years running. This is a pretty big accomplishment when you consider that your audience will be able to access your website over 99% of the year.
GoDaddy is also very confident that they’ll be able to maintain these uptime records because they have issued an uptime guarantee, which allows you to get a refund if your website isn’t hosted 99% of the time because of their hosting servers.
GoDaddy has a Fast Load Time
Another area that you’ll want to look at when you’re picking the best web host is load time. If your hosting provider isn’t able to give good load times, then your audience will always have a slow viewing experience while they’re on your website. This can be a significant cause of frustration and result in a loss of business.
You want your website to be fast so that you can provide the best viewing experience to your audience. However, if your web host doesn’t have fast load times, then there’s little that you can do to help speed up your website.
We did a review of over 30 different web hosting companies, and we found that the industry standard for load times was 700 ms for load speeds. When it comes to GoDaddy hosting, we were pleased to find that they beat the industry standard by posting a load time speed of 547ms. This load time is pretty good, and it’s much faster than a lot of hosting companies that you could be using.
Easy-to-Use Website Builder
If you know that you need a website, but you have no idea how to build a website, and you’re not sure that you want to hire a web design agency to help you develop your site, then you’ll likely want to use a website builder.
A website builder is a platform that you can use to drop and drag different icons, text blocks, and other features into place. This platform will then take the design that you have created and use it to build a website for you. This method is simple to use, cheap, and you can create your first website within minutes.
When you use GoDaddy hosting, you’ll have access to their website building platform, which will allow you to build your website and then host it through GoDaddy hosting. It’s a nice feature to have from a hosting provider and perfect for anyone who wants everything that they need in one place.
Cheap Base Hosting Plans
One of the benefits of using GoDaddy hosting is the fact that they offer affordable web hosting plans for those who don’t need all of the frills with their hosting plans. If you’re looking for a hosting provider that can give you basic hosting for a low price, then GoDaddy is a great hosting choice.
If you have a smaller website that doesn’t get a lot of traffic, then you’ll likely be able to get by with the basic GoDaddy plans that start at $2.99 per month. If you find that you need to upgrade your hosting plan, then you can easily do so with a click of a button.
The basic plans don’t have many features, but they’ll be more than enough if you’re trying to host a basic website for a small business or personal use.
Over 125 One-Click Install Apps
When people are using a website builder, they tend to complain that the website builder doesn’t offer as much functionality as a website that was coded from scratch. While a manually built website is more powerful and can be programmed to have many more features than a website built with a website builder, there are ways to make an AI designed website more powerful.
One of these ways is to add extra apps and extensions to the website builder’s library so that you can add more functionality to the website. This is precisely what GoDaddy has done, and they have added over 125 different apps that you can use on your website to ensure that your website functions faster and has more features for your audience to use.
This is a nice feature to have because now you won’t need to go to platforms like Fiverr and have a freelancer try to add extra features to your website that were never intended to be there, and you’ll get these features for free in your applications library.
Scalable Hosting Plans
One of the biggest frustrations that you can come across when you’re hosting a website is the inability to change your hosting plan after you’ve locked yourself into a long term contract. Often, a website owner will choose a hosting plan that fits the needs that they have, but over time, those needs begin to change, and they find that their website requires a larger hosting plan.
If you’re unable to upgrade your hosting plan, then it can really slow down the growth of your website, and you’ll be paying for a hosting plan that you don’t need for any longer.
When you work with GoDaddy, you’ll find that their hosting plans are flexible, and they will allow you to upgrade your hosting plan with a click of a button. This will allow you to choose a hosting plan that fits your website’s needs, and then as your site begins to grow, you’ll be able to upgrade your plan to meet your growing needs.
Long Track Record
If you’re looking for a hosting company, then you don’t want to choose a hosting company that is a fly by night type of company that won’t be able to provide quality services in the long run.
You’ll want to look at their track record to see what type of services they have provided in the past and ensure that they are here for the long run. If you’re not sure that they will be here in 5 years, then you may want to use them as your web host or else you’ll have to go through the headache of changing your hosting provider.
GoDaddy was founded in 1997 and has now been running for over two decades. They currently host or manage over 76 million different websites, which results in over 2 billion dollars of revenue each year.
This is a pretty reliable indicator that they will be here for a while to come since they have a solid customer base that is still using them as their web hosting provider.
Disadvantages of GoDaddy Hosting
If you’re looking for the perfect web host, then you’ll be quickly disappointed because there isn’t one. Every hosting company has its flaws and shortcomings, which they try to hide by displaying the benefits that they’re able to offer.
You’ll need to take these pros and cons and then evaluate each hosting company, and this will help you choose the best hosting company for you and the needs that you have.
We took a critical look at GoDaddy’s hosting features, and we were able to find some disadvantages that you may experience if you’re using their hosting services to host your website.
Higher Renewal Rates
This disadvantage is pretty common, and it doesn’t matter which hosting provider you choose to work with because you’ll likely experience this issue with every hosting company that you can find.
When you purchase hosting, they’ll offer you a discount if you buy a longer-term, such as 36 months on your initial contract. After this first contract expires, you’ll have to renew your hosting at the regular rate, which is usually a bit more than the fee that you were previously paying every month.
You’ll want to take a look at the regular monthly price for hosting because this is the price that you’ll be paying after your first contract has expired, and you need to renew your hosting agreement.
While this is pretty common, it’s something that you should be aware of so that you know what you’ll be paying in the long run.
Unreliable Support Staff
One of the disadvantages that you may experience when you’re working with GoDaddy is their unreliable support staff. If you have issues that need to be resolved, then it can be “hit and miss” with the GoDaddy support staff.
It’s not that their support staff doesn’t know what they are doing, but it can be challenging to get in touch with any member of their support staff. This is strange because they offer support through phone, email and live chat. If you contact their support staff, then you may experience long wait times, and pop-up messages that have varying hours that you should contact their support staff within.
We recommend that you try their live chat, and if it’s busy, then use the email ticket support because you’ll get followed up with eventually once you’ve been given a support ticket number.
Limited Features on the Base Plans
If you’re looking for a lot of features and add-ons within the basic hosting plans, then you should avoid GoDaddy. The basic plans come with no bells or whistles, and it’s just basic hosting for your website.
Many hosting companies will add a lot of enticing features within their basic plans to get new customers in the door, but GoDaddy is pretty stingy when it comes to free features. Here are some of the features that you’ll need to pay for:
- SSL Certificate
- Website Backups
- Security Features
- Website Migrations
These are just some of the features that you’ll be able to get free from other hosting providers, but you’ll have to pay for if you’re using GoDaddy. If you’re looking for a cheap web host, then you may want to consider another option because these features will tend to add up and become costly if your website requires them.
Confusing Money-Back Policy
When you’re using a hosting company, you likely want them to be easy to deal with and that they give you no hassle when you’re acting on one of their policies. This isn’t the case with GoDaddy because they offer a 30-day money-back guarantee for their hosting plans, but then they add extra clauses so they can always reject the refunds.
One of these clauses state:
“If a Hosting Service has already been performed, then it is non-refundable (if not yet performed, eligible for a refund within 30 days of the date of the transaction).”
This seems like a bunch of legal jargon that they add so that they can always deny a hosting refund to unhappy customers. When you work with other hosting companies, you’ll find that they let you test their hosting so that you’re 100% happy before you commit to a long term contract with their company.
This is another reason that we weren’t impressed with GoDaddy. However, if you love their services, then you’ll never have to worry about these legal clauses that could restrict you from getting a refund.
GoDaddy Hosting Plans and Pricing
When you’re looking for a good web hosting company, you’ll want to pick a company that’s a good fit for you and the needs that you have. This means more than just making sure that you get along with the company and their support staff.
You’ll want to make sure that they have a lot of different hosting plans that will allow your website to grow at a price that you can afford. This way, you’ll be sure to pick the best web hosting company for your website.
When you’re working with GoDaddy, you’ll have a choice between 4 different types of web hosting:
- Shared Web Hosting
- VPS Web Hosting
- Dedicated Web Hosting
- WordPress Hosting
We will take a look at each of these hosting tiers and take a look at the plans and packages within each tier so that you can make an educated decision on which plans are the best web hosting for your website.
GoDaddy Shared Web Hosting
The most common form of web hosting is the shared hosting tier because it’s cheaper than the rest, and many websites don’t require more hosting data than they can get from the shared hosting plans.
Shared hosting is an excellent option unless your website has a lot of traffic every month. This is because when you use a shared hosting server, you’ll be sharing all of the server’s limited resources with the other websites on the same server. This means that your site can become slower if you have a lot of visitors on your website.
Your website can also become slower on shared hosting if there’s a faulty website being hosted on your server because a broken website will tend to use more than its share of hosting resources and leave the other sites to suffer.
GoDaddy has four different plans within their shared hosting tier:
- Economy Hosting
- Deluxe Hosting
- Ultimate Hosting
- Maximum Hosting
All of these shared hosting plans are a great starting point for anyone who needs some basic web hosting for their website. These plans are pretty basic, which allows them to be a cheap hosting option for your website.
Who should use GoDaddy’s Shared Hosting?
If you have a smaller website for your business or your personal use, then you’ll likely be able to benefit from a shared hosting plan. This is because shared hosting is cheap, and it will give you the chance to grow your website without costing a lot.
If your website is getting over 30,000 visitors every month, then you may want to consider upgrading your hosting plan to be more accommodating. This will ensure that you’re providing a fast viewing experience for all of your audience members by having a proper hosting plan.
GoDaddy Virtual Private Hosting
If you’ve been using the shared hosting plans and you find that you need more from your hosting provider, then you may want to consider using a Virtual Private Server (VPS) to host your website.
A VPS is similar to shared hosting because you’re still sharing a server with other website owners, expect when you use VPS hosting, you’ll be given hosting resources that other websites won’t be able to use. This means that your site can become faster as long as you don’t exceed your monthly hosting limits, and a faulty website won’t be able to use up all of your data.
This will allow you to provide a consistent viewing experience to even more audience members, and you won’t need to worry about slow load times, which could frustrate your audience.
GoDaddy has four different plans within their VPS hosting tier:
- Launch VPS Hosting
- Enhance VPS Hosting
- Grow VPS Hosting
- Expand VPS Hosting
These hosting plans will have a lot more features than the shared hosting plans, and you’ll find that you won’t need to pay for a lot of upsells that you may have paid for when you were using the shared hosting plans through GoDaddy.
Who should use GoDaddy’s VPS Hosting?
If you have a more extensive website that requires more hosting resources, then you may want to consider using the GoDaddy VPS hosting. This will allow your site a chance to grow while giving your audience a better user experience.
If your website has up to 100,000 viewers every month, then VPS hosting is an excellent option for your website. Always remember to upgrade your hosting plans before you exceed the limits so that you always have enough hosting resources to handle spikes in website traffic.
GoDaddy Dedicated Hosting Servers
If your website requires a lot of hosting data or your website needs a hosting server to itself, then you’ll want to use a dedicated web host. A dedicated web host is a hosting server that is dedicated to hosting just one website or a few websites for the same account.
This means that all of the resources within the server will be at your disposal, and you won’t need to share anything with other websites. This will allow your website to handle even more traffic, and it also lets you configure your server to meet your demands.
Dedicated hosting is the most expensive form of web hosting because you’re paying for the entire server on your own, and there aren’t other website owners to share costs with since you’re the only one using the server.
GoDaddy has four plans within their Dedicated Hosting Tier:
- Economy Dedicated Hosting
- Value Dedicated Hosting
- Deluxe Dedicated Hosting
- Ultimate Dedicated Hosting
All of the hosting plans use state-of-the-art servers that you can use to host your website and give yourself the best chance for success. Keep in mind that few sites will require dedicated hosting, and you’ll likely be able to get by with VPS hosting.
Who should use GoDaddy’s Dedicated Hosting?
If you have an extensive website that has a lot of visitors every month, then you may want to start using a dedicated web server to host your website. You never want to pay too much for dedicated hosting, so make sure that you actually need a dedicated server before finalizing your purchase.
If your website has over 500,000 visitors every month, then it may be time for you to upgrade your hosting plan from VPS hosting to a dedicated hosting server. This will give you the best chance to handle the visitors while providing a great viewing experience to your audience members.
Do we recommend GoDaddy Hosting?
No, we do not recommend GoDaddy for their hosting, and we believe that there are better web hosting options available. There’s no denying that GoDaddy has reliable uptimes and that they can provide fast hosting speeds, we don’t believe that this is enough to get our recommendation.
They tend to upsell a lot of features that you would be able to get for free from other hosting providers such as website migrations and daily backups. They also have unreliable support staff, which can cause a lot of frustrations.
So unless you need hosting plans that have zero frills, and you’re willing to pay for extended features, we would recommend that you choose another option for your web hosting such as Bluehost or Hostinger Hosting.
